10 Best Biggest Green Creatures MTG [Best Green Cards MTG]

Green is the undisputed best color for creatures and mana ramp. Together, they synergize into giving you access to some of the biggest, most powerful creatures in MTG. However, not all “fatties” are equal – so then, what are the best big green creatures?

The best big green creatures are those with high stats that demand an immediate answer. Otherwise, your opponent can chump block them, or kill them with removal spells. Other solid options for giant green creatures include cards with built-in protection or an aggressively low mana value.

We can look at the best examples now that we know what to keep aware of when playing giant green creatures. Remember, though, that this list isn’t in a specific order – all these cards are great. They have seen professional play but in different decks and situations. Read on to know what the best big green creatures are and how to use them.

Best Biggest Green Creatures MTG

1. Craterhoof Behemoth

Avacyn Restored‘s premier big green creature, Craterhoof Behemoth, rewards you for playing wide, giving each of your creatures +X/+X and the trample ability when it enters the battlefield.

X is the number of creatures you have. It has haste, too, so that’s a guaranteed attack for six damage even if you don’t have other attackers.

Craterhoof Behemoth is a mainstay of creature-based strategies – often as their win condition. Few decks can stand up to that assault.

No wonder, then, that Craterhoof Behemoth is a cEDH favorite with three Top 8s in pro-level Legacy tournaments.

2. Elder Gargaroth

Whenever Elder Gargaroth attacks or blocks, you choose one of three options.

You can draw a card, gain three life, or create a 3/3 beast token. Additionally, it’s 6/6 with vigilance for five mana, so there’s never a reason not to use this big green creature in combat.

Its competitive record is no less impressive – Elder Gargaroth has seen play in fourteen Top 8 decks across several professional-level tournaments.

Its comparatively low cost plus oppressive abilities made it a staple of green-splashing control decks.

3. Carnage Tyrant

Carnage Tyrant truly lives up to its flavor text – it’s a “giant, implacable death lizard.”

As well as having hexproof and trample, your opponent can’t counter this 7/6 dinosaur either. This card is a perfect answer to control decks, which lack any way to get rid of it past a board wipe.

This fatty has a tremendous competitive record, too. Every Top 8 deck in the 2018 World Magic Cup ran copies of this card, proving its value as one of MTG’s best six-mana-value attackers.

4. Thragtusk

Thragtusk is a perfect example of a card that can singlehandedly turn a game around.

Not only does it gain you five life points when it enters the battlefield, but it has some of the best protection abilities in the game, too. If Thragtusk leaves the battlefield, you get a free 3/3 beast token to continue the assault.

This way, one piece of removal won’t cut it. Your opponent must destroy Thragtusk twice to end the threat.

No wonder, then, that this deadly beast has thirteen Top 8 wins in professional-level tournaments, particularly as an end-of-curve threat in Midrange strategies.

5. Lovestruck Beast

While you need to wait for several turns before ramping out most fatties, Lovestruck Beast is the exception.

You can get this 5/5 beater out in the correct deck as early as turn two. See, it only costs three mana. However, it can’t attack unless you control a 1/1 creature.

Llanowar Elves and Elvish Mystic are mana dorks that fit that requirement, letting you play one on turn one, then cast Lovestruck Beast the following turn.

Combos like that make it one of the most competitive green creatures, with twenty-three Top 8s across Standard and Mythic Championships.

6. World Breaker

World Breaker, like most Eldrazi, is a gigantic creature – but it also has some of the most dominant abilities green has ever produced.

It exiles a target artifact, enchantment, or land when you cast it, for starters. Additionally, you can pay three mana and sacrifice lands to return it from your graveyard to your hand.

These abilities make World Breaker a persistent threat that can grind through nearly any deck. It has devoid, too, meaning that green hate can’t hurt it either.

It shouldn’t surprise, then, that pro players used this Eldrazi in six Pro Tour Top 8 decks.

NOTE: World Break is Technically not green due to its “Devoid” ability. I think it still deserved to be on the list, but best to keep that rules text in mind!

7. Terastodon

The favorite fatty of Legacy and Vintage combat decks, Terastodon combines huge 9/9 stats with versatile removal.

You can destroy up to three non-creature permanents when it enters the battlefield. This ability, rare in green, has earned it a remarkable twenty-seven Top 8 wins, mainly in graveyard decks that can easily cheat it out.

Terastodon has a downside, though. While it is one of the most efficient ways to destroy anything from lands to artifacts, your opponent gets a 3/3 elephant for each of their permanents that you remove.

Or, of course, you can target your spare cards for an even larger army.

8. Primeval Titan

The star of the infamous Amulet Titan deck, Primeval Titan (aka “Prime Time“), is easily the best giant in MTG.

When this 6/6 creature enters the battlefield or attacks, you can cheat two lands from your deck onto the battlefield. That’s any land you want, including non-basics.

Primeval Titan’s abilities ensure that it gets you great value even if it dies immediately. Its 6/6 body isn’t anything to scoff at either.

This big green creature has eight Pro Tour and Worlds Top 8 wins, plus a ban in the Commander format.

9. Polukranos, World Eater

Polukranos, World Eater, has one of the best costs of any fatty at only four mana.

For that, you get a 5/5 hydra with an extraordinary monstrosity ability. You can pay XXG to put X +1/+1 counters on this card, dividing X damage among your opponent’s creatures. So, essentially, Polukranos is a green sweeper.

Since it combined deadly removal with an imposing body, Polukranos quickly became a staple of Devotion strategies.

In those decks, it picked up most of its thirteen Top 8 wins across Pro Tours and the World Magic Cup.

10. Cloudthresher

Few elementals have had as much professional play as Cloudthresher has.

This big green creature has nine Top 8s across Worlds and Pro Tours. And here’s why: Cloudthresher is a five-mana creature with flash and reach.

Not only do these abilities let it be a surprise blocker, but you can also evoke it at instant speed. It’ll shock all flying creatures and players for two damage.

It’s 7/7, too, so whatever it blocks will almost certainly die.
