About Me

Nicholas Lloyd

Nicholas Lloyd is a professional writer living in Japan that has been a member of the Trading Card Community for over 20 years.

He’s helped broker some of the biggest card sales in history; breaking 2 World Records in the process.

How it All Started

A 7-year-old me eyeing the 3 rows of Pokémon booster packs seated neatly behind the counter in a store located in Wolverhampton, England. I still remember the nervous energy that vibrated through my fingers as I cracked open my first packs in the backseat of the car as we drove home that day. 20 years later, I can’t tell you what I pulled in those packs, but I can tell that is where it all started for me.

I started this website in 2021 with the aim of helping people get the most out of Collectable Card Games and dispelling a few outdated misconceptions about TCGs along the way – there is a card game out there for everyone.

I’ve been lucky enough to have met some fantastic individuals and communities that were able to introduce me to many different TCGs along my Journey: Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Duel Masters, Magic The Gathering, Hearthstone, Legends of Runeterra, and more…

I’m a strong believer in the idea that no matter your age, race, gender, or country, TCGs have something to offer everyone.

By Day…

In university, I studied Philosophy, Publishing, and a little bit of Japanese which somehow landed me a job traveling the world working on different Blockchain projects.

One year later, after stepping down from Chairmen of a Trading Card Game Society and leaving University, I realized I had made a mistake in the direction my life was heading.

I quit my job, packed my suitcase and moved to Japan.

My love of writing and human psychology lead me down a new career path of marketing and into a job that allowed me to share my love of all things Japanese and TCG with the rest of the world.

Here (on the right) you can see what I bought on my first trip to Akihabara, Tokyo.

I’m now lucky enough to live in Ōsaka, Japan, and have a local trading card game store less than 20 minutes from my front door.

Awards and Achievements

World Record #1 – Pikachu Illustrator Sells for $233,000

In 2020, I was lucky enough to a part of the team that helped broker a record-breaking Pokémon card sale for an extremely rare card Japanese “Pikachu” Illustrator card.

At the time, the story was also featured on some of the biggest news outlets in the world. It was a fantastic first experience into the world of high-value card collectibles.

World Record #2 – Pikachu Illustrator Sells for $360,000

In November 2020, lightning struck a second time!

We break the record for the world’s most expensive Pokémon card a second time with another Pikachu Illustrator card.

During that time the price of Pokémon cards appeared to be skyrocketing due to a resurgence in popularity and so, the title of world record holder was short-lived as less than 2 weeks later, someone else broke the record yet again.

Childreach International Charity – Raised Over £1,000

During my time at university as Chairmen for a TCG community, I was able to organize a local event to help raise money for the charity “Childreach International”. It would not have been possible if it wasn’t for the amazing communities that surround trading card games.

I will always be grateful to ChannelFire and the professional artist that sent out prints and prizes for free to help us raise money
